Ilayathalapathi Vija'y's Thalaivaa had a gargantum opening last weekend in USA in record number of locations. The audience response for the movie is encouraging and they have lauded the mass movie which is a sumptous treat to all his fans.
Thalaivaa is doing strong business and continued in all major locations for the second week in USA. ActorVijay has requested everyone to curb piracy and watch this movie in big screen as it involves hardwork, passion and enormous effort of the whole team. Please check the link below

Though Thalaivaa didn’t make it in time to theatres in Tamil Nadu, some of the other prominent markets such as Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra and the overseas circuits saw the movie’s release and the opening has been good all over.
Kerala – From a total of 131 screens, the opening has been excellent and the first weekend gross is expected to be above 3 crores. The first day gross of 1.12 crores perfectly set the pace for constant improvements over the weekend. It must be noted that lot of audiences from Tamil Nadu are frequenting theatres in the TN – Kerala border to catch a glimpse of Thalaivaa. The Eid festival period has given a huge boost to the Kerala box-office and Thalaivaa stands on top. Distributors are confident that the movie’s overall collections will end up being as big as Thuppaki and Pokkiri in Kerala.
Andhra Pradesh – The Telugu dubbed version, Anna, after a terrific day one opening share of 1 crore, the overall weekend share settled at around 2 to 2.25 crores. Anna opened in around 275 screens, making it Vijay’s biggest release in Andhra. The Tamil version of the movie is being screened in 3 properties in Hyderabad City. The overall feedback from audiences seem to be that the second half is a little lengthy but the fact that the movie didn’t have any competition in its opening weekend helped its cause.
Karnataka – Bangalore City has seen an extraordinary opening for Thalaivaa with occupancies ranging in the 85 to 90% range. After the first day, 4 extra screens were added and trade pundits opine that the opening is better than the other recent big release Singam 2. A lot of fans had travelled from Tamil Nadu to see the movie, thereby adding to the craze in Bangalore City. But it must be seen if the weekdays can sustain as well as Singam 2 did.
UK – From the paid previews on Thursday till Saturday, Thalaivaa’s gross in the UK is 78 lakhs approximate from 34 locations and it is seen as a very impressive opening. Vijay’s films generally embark on a great start in the UK, and Thalaivaa is no exception.
USA – At the end of the first weekend, the US gross of Thalaivaa from 44 reported locations is 212,000 USD (1.29 crores). A record total of 70 locations are screening Thalaivaa and the total gross for the first weekend is expected to be in the 250,000 USD range. But there was a drop from Day 2 onwards and overall the film is expected to break-even in the US.
Malaysia, Singapore and Srilanka have opened well as expected, because Vijay enjoys a huge fan base in these countries.
It must be noted that Chennai Express is on a record breaking spree in most of the overseas markets and the other Southern Indian states such as Karnataka and Andhra. This has impacted the collections of Thalaivaa, opine trade pundits.
Now all eyes are on Thalaivaa’s release date in Tamil Nadu and how it will open here.
After all the hype, the release of 'Thalaivaa' has now been postponed indefinitely. The decision was arrived at the meeting at Film Chamber, involving stake holders. Since countless number of bomb threats were received from theatres across the state, the film has been stalled temporarily, stating security reasons. However, the postponement is effective only in Tamil Nadu state and Pondicherry, while the movie will release as per schedule in the rest of the country and also worldwide. It is to be recollected that a similar incident surfaced during the release of Kamal Hassan's 'Vishwaroopam'.

Now, posters and hoardings of 'Thalaivaa' have been ordered to be removed across Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. An official announcement of the postponement and also the new release date is awaited. It is well known that Ilayathalapathy Vijay has huge fan following all over the world. While people went to other states to watch Ulaga Nayagan's 'Vishwaroopam', how many will cross the border for Vijay's 'Thalaivaa'?
The shoots of Vijay's Jilla, directed by Neason, are happening at a fast clip and over the past 3 days, the team is shooting all through the night at Mohan Studios, Chennai. Vijay, Kajal Agarwal, Soori, Vidyullekha Raman among others have been taking part in this schedule, which would be wrapped up by the end of the month. The set at Mohan Studios is being used both as a house as well as a police station, with minor modifications to the design.
Now coming to the big part, Vijay is indeed playing a cop's role in Jilla and for majority of the second half, we will be seeing Vijay as a robust and dashing cop. After Pokkiri, he will be donning the police khaki again, much to the delight of his fans.
The Jilla team plans to move to Hyderabad next for their shoots. As of now, the team is targeting a Pongal 2014 release and fans would get to see Vijay as a cop, at the very beginning of the year.
Limitless expectations are mounting on Ilayathalapathy Vijay's upcoming 'Thalaivaa', which is gearing up to release on August 9th. The film is expected to reap maximum profit in the first fortnight after release, especially around Independence Day.
'Thalaivaa' release in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and abroad is confirmed, but Andhra screens are still ambiguous. As Tollywood Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's movie is to release on August 7th, 'Thalaivaa' is pushed to the end of the month; however, negotiations are going on, for a unanimous release. Meanwhile, preparations for the movie are underway in full sway, with many screens printing out posters of the movie with the screen name on it. Now, the movie is set to cross the most important stage, i.e. clearance at the Censor Board.
The film is likely to be cleared and provided a Censor certificate tomorrow. Directed by AL Vijay and canned by Nirav Shah, starring Vijay, Amala Paul and Ragini Nandwani in the lead, 'Thalaivaa' has music by GV Prakash and the film is going to be an August treat.
There are comparisons being made between Vijay starrer Thalaivaa and Nayagan and even Baasha. But the director A.L.Vijay has said that, though the theme may be the same the content is totally different from those two movies.
While writing the script, the director was sure that he needed some big star but was not specific about Vijay. Ilayathalapathy happened to like the director's pitch about the script and the project immediately kick-started.
He is happy with Ilayathalapathy's work on his voice and body language as his character goes through a marked transition.
Director Vijay sums up Thalaivaa as a movie with a good story and a great star, and also one which would have both the Vijays' sensibilities in equal measure.
When it is Ilayathalapathy Vijay, you can blindly go by the planner, as he is a highly systematic and well planned actor. Right now, he is acting in director Nesan's 'Jilla', and will soon afterwards, be hopping to AR Murugadoss's project in 2014. But after that, there is absolute silence in his scheduler, as he has not given dates for anyone after that movie. The grapevine is abuzz that Vijay is keeping his dates clear for a mega budget project. Now the big question is who will be the lucky director of this film. All we can do is wait and watch. Meanwhile, Ilayathalapathy's project with director AL Vijay, 'Thalaivaa', starring Amala Paul and Ragini Nandwani as the heroines, is gearing up for release soon
If the buzz is to be believed, then it is true that Ilayathalapathy Vijay is playing the role of a Muslim in his upcoming 'Jilla'. Although the team is tight lipped about the project, there are reasons to believe this feed, as director and the hero's father SA Chandrasekhar had declared during the controversies over 'Thupakki' thatVijay will be playing a Muslim in his next movie.
From earlier buzzes and eventual confirmation from the stars, we know that Mohanlal is playing the role ofVijay's godfather. Set against the backdrop of Madurai, the film has Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal, Mohanlal, Niveditha Thomas and Mahat to its star cast, and the team will be starting their third schedule of shooting today, in Chennai. Director Nesan is keen on finishing the project at a fast pace, as he plans for the film to be a Pongal 2
You cannot just write this director as a stereotype, as every single movie he deals is contrast to the previous one. If Madrasapatinam was a periodical love story, Deivathirumagal oozed with Father-Daughter sentiment and so were the subsequent ones. He now deals with one of his biggest outing till date "Thalaivaa".
The director is already working on the script of his next movie which is touted to be an out and out Kids' flick. The movie will also have the Sara of Deivathirumagal fame in the main cast. It deals with the story of a young girl who has an adorable pet, but somehow in this age of sacrifices, the pet should be sacrificed. What leads on forms the story. After directing biggies, this will be totally off the hook, but have to wait and watch how it unveils.
After playing important roles in Murugadoss’ Engeyum Eppodhum and Vatthikuchi, Vatsan, an ardent fan of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s, has finally made it as a hero in a film, titled Apple Penne. Directed by R.K. Kalaimani, who had worked with the likes of Vijayakanth, Karthik and Prabhu, the movie has Aishwarya Menon as the female lead. Yesteryear heroine Roja returns in a glam role after a gap. Mani Sharma composes the music.
It was but natural for Vatsan who used the ‘Thalapthy Anthem’ last year — a huge hit — to let his matinee idol, Vijay, know first about the film. “After hearing the news Vijay Anna was super happy. He called me and conveyed his greetings through an autograph (when he wrote ‘Best Wishes’ on my picture). Being his diehard fan since childhood, I am really happy that he has been very supportive. He has advised me a lot and that made me gain patience and work hard.”

Tamil actor Vijay doesn't like to waste even a single paisa of a filmmaker, says producer Chandraprakash Jain, who has worked with the actor in upcoming action-thriller "Thalaivaa".
"Vijay sir understands the pain of a producer more than anyone. He knows how much money goes into each of his project and, therefore, is always conscious of every paisa spent. He doesn't like to waste (money) for no reason," Chandraprakash told IANS.
"I still remember we couldn't get permission to shoot in some part of Australia and were asked to wait for few days. I told the team to sit back and unwind before we could resume shooting. Vijay sir called and told me that everybody should go back to India instead of wasting money. He agreed to stay back because I insisted," he added.
The entire team of "Thalaivaa" spent nearly a month in Australia shooting important scenes.
"How many actors are concerned about the producer's money," asked Chandraprakash, who assumed that Vijay will never work with him.
"I have only made two films so far. I was wondering why a superstar like Vijay would even work in my film. I was quite surprised when he called me home one day and said that he would like to do my film," he said.
Vijay is cast opposite Amala Paul and Ragini Nandwani in "Thalaivaa", which is directed by A.L.Vijay. It is scheduled to release in August.
